WANTED: Puppy

If you are my facebook friend or read my blog on Monday... you will know that we are considering a PUPPY! I never thought I would be writing these words. I never had dogs growing up. Josh did though.

Here's the story... I am allergic to most animals with fur. However, growing up we always had a cat. I just put up with it :) Now, this weekend... I spent some time with the above puppy, Lena. AND... I FELL IN LOVE! Yorkies are the cutest, smallest puppies I have EVER seen.

AND BONUS -- Hypoallergenic. We are now in the process of research, thinking and praying through the option of adding a YORKIE or YORKIE Poo to our family. AH! It is soooo exciting!!

It's no lie that I have been having baby fever pretty severely lately. And... realistically we need to wait a little while longer (unless God has a different plan...). SO... I think a puppy would be a good option? Ya?

This is Jillian with her puppy Lena. Insert me here... can't you see it?? Baby Puppy Thurston :)
Here is what I need friends...

ADVICE?
INPUT?

You can read my facebook status and see all the feedback we've gotten... it's crazy. The only thing that is holding us back is the potential that I may be allergic. We are going to try and plan an extended time of me playing with a yorkie or yorkiepoo to see if I react.

Do YOU have a puppy? Please share... I am SO new to this all!

Ria! Yorkiepoos are so cute! We just got another dog (a puppy). Potty training is not easy!

Aww go for it!! My stepmom has a yorkie maltese and she is just the CUTEST and SWEETEST thing ever!! I love her!

Awww Puppies are the best thing in this world! (besides babies of course - have the fever as well) I always grew up with dogs, and my husband did not. We did a lot of research on a breed before we decided on the Goldendoodle. We now have a furry Daughter Emmie. Definitely make sure to get a kennel and keep the puppy in it when you are not home. It helps TONS with the potty training! Best of luck!!!

Puppies are so fun & will literally light up your world! We have a large dog, a yellow lab, that lives outside but he's still so much fun! I say go for it...it should definitely help with the baby fever!

Aww my pup is a Chorkie. I grew up with big dogs.. never thought I would ever want a small one.. but I couldn't imagine not having her :) And it does subside the baby fever just a tad ;)

I'm not sure about Yorkies but I do know that people who tend to be alergic react better to breeds mixed with poodle. A yorkipoo might be a good choice!

I say go for it! Caleb and I got a puppy about about 5 months after our wedding and loved adding a new addition to our home. It was a lot of work training him, but so worth it. I now can't imagine our little home without him. He's part of the family.

Yorkies are amazing! Ian's grandparents have a teacup Yorkie, and chose the breed because of their allergies. She is just the best dog ever and SO tiny! Even when they are older they seem so "puppy like!"

awww! What a cutie!

I think one of those cuties could ease some baby fever! I had puppy allergies when I was younger, but I seemed to have outgrown them....

Is there an allergy medication you could take? If you have a mild reaction to it?

Oh, Yorkies are the best! We have one, and I love him. Derek bought him for me and gave him to me when he proposed (with the ring around his neck!). They are the cutest little dogs, but be prepared for lots of accidents on the floor - little dogs tend to have more problems with that, especially as puppies.

Oh my gosh... so sweet! I don't have any real valuable advice except... GET A PUPPY! NOW! I can't have a puppy yet - we live in an apartment where it took months of convincing and a ridiculous "security" deposit to have a housecat. So i'm patiently waiting to relocate in the next year, so i can have my puppy. :) Can't wait to see if/when you decide!

Dogs are WoNdeRfUlL!! Once you bring one into your family, you wont know how you ever lived without one! They are the BeSt companions and live to love you!!
Realistically they are hard when they are puppies, potty training and the sleeping at night is hard but worth it after a couple months!!
I have a dog now and have had a total of 5 in my lifetime so you could say I know a LiTtLe... :)

Let me know if you find your little rascal and I'll email you some pointers that I've had to learn the hard way... :) CONGRATS!!!

And your smart about the baby, make sure your 100% ready!! (Unless of course it's out of your hands, then just embrace the crazy happiness!)

I LOVE our yorkie! She has been a great companion to me since we got her 3 years ago! I think we will always have a yorkie in our house! :)

I have a Lab (which isn't an option for someone allergic!!) and I adore him! I had 3 Labs growing up and got Dixon when I graduated college. It is a lot of work training a dog, but sooo worth it!! I think you'd love it!

How exciting! We have a 7 year old Wheaton Terrier, which are also hypoallergenic. We got him when he was already an adult so he was trained and everything. I don't know what we'll do when we have to get a puppy!
However, I highly recommend a dog, Eric and I really feel like a family with the three of us. It's a big responsibility but he's definitely part of our family : D

I had animals when I was growing up and we have had many while raising our 6 kids. I made the kids take care of them ... I have never been a dog person myself but I decided last year, for some unknown reason, that I needed a puppy as well.

After a ton of research and looking, I purchased a precious little boy Yorkie that we named QUINCY ... He's about 18 months old now and the most precious thing ever. I absolutely love him and can't imagine what I would do without him.

Yorkies are a breed that I was told would absorb the attitude of your home so if you aren't 'yippy' he/she probably won't be either. Our Quincy is loveable, doesn't chew on things, goes everywhere with me and only has a few little puppy quirks. =0)

We've been so happy with our choice ... I hope you'll be too, if you decide to adopt one.

Blessings,
penny

Yorkie's are so cute!! And I know for me, when we got a kitten, it helped my baby fever a lot! (for a few months anyway). I think you should go for it!

I've always wanted a puppy! If I get one it's going to be a Yorkiepoo, though. They are great dogs if you live in a small space like an apartment.

Having 3 kids, I had zero desire to get a dog, but Hubby wanted one! We ended up adopting an 18mo dog from a shelter. He has turned out great!

Go for the puppy if you want one, but just know that you will be up during the night with it, and having to toilet train. It will rip stuff you leave around up, and probably dig up some fave plants in the garden. And it won't stay a puppy for long (they grow so quickly)!

But training is the key, so make sure you get it to puppy school so you have a lovely, well behaved little dog. And walk it. Exercise helps dogs to not get up to so much mischief!

My only other thing is: I always try to advise people not to buy dogs from a pet store. These poor dogs come from parents who are just used to breed, and they're often not living a great little life just breeding puppies for sale. Sorry - don't mean to be a downer, but if we keep buying pups from pet stores, the pet stores will continue to buy those puppies from places that don't treat the dogs well.

Good luck! xx

Ria! I have a cute little yorkie :) My mom has always been extremely, almost deathly allergic to anything with fur. Tucker lives with her and she has always been just fine.

One thing to keep in mind...they have very small bladders. More specifically, they have to go out every 30 minutes. Small dogs are also a little more difficult to train. Just a heads up. Tucker still is naughty sometimes and goes to the bathroom inside the house.

Oh I'm so excited for you! Some places to look are Petfinder.com, the Humane Society, and Craigslist. Take care.

I read a lot of the comments above and I just want to say that not all little dogs are hard to train or need to go out all the time! Roxy is very well trained and she could hold her bladder alll day. But she is 10lbs too. Not a teacup or anything! So it's the pick of the liter ;)
