Sad Saturday...

(disclaimer::: I am posting this for our memories... no one has to read it if they don't want too :))

Saturday was QUITE the day! Can I say a photographers worst nightmare? Sickness struck Josh and I. Both. We left around 6am to drive to Hibbing, MN (3+ hours away) for a wedding... friends of ours! We stopped and ate at McDonald's for breakfast... we were starving... well, I was starving.

Started photographing the wedding party and ceremony... and in between the ceremony and reception is when it struck. Josh couldn't come to the reception because he was puking. I thought I was hungry, so I ate at the reception. It was rough! I HAD to get all the important shots so I sucked it up but there was part of me that was just done...

During the maid of honor speech is when it hit... I grabbed a garbage can... ran upstairs... threw up 6+ times. Came back, photographed more... texted Josh to see his status. He was not doing well. I felt somewhat better after getting whatever was IN --- OUT. So, onward I went through photographing the rest of the speeches, first dances, cake cutting.

I had to tell my friends, the bride and groom my status. My co-photographer, Laurel was so kind and compassionate and she said she would get the final shots and that we needed and told us to just LEAVE. I felt horrible. I didn't want to miss the garter/bouquet toss but knew I wasn't going to make it much longer without throwing up again.

Crying and in pain - I told my friends and they were SO sweet about it. SO kind! They released us and told us to get better (selfless, on their wedding day). I felt somewhat okay because we DID get mostly all of the main shots and I knew that we would all be better off if we just left!

So, we left at about 7:30 and started driving. We canceled our hotel reservation a week before, because Josh wanted to just drive home after the wedding. We were kicking ourselves as we quickly realized that EVERY hotel in Hibbing was COMPLETELY booked. Yea, right?! Well... it happened... so onto Duluth, the next major city we went. It was about 1 hour away.

As we are driving - I had to throw up. JOSH WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. Pulled over, on the side of the road. It was tragic. My poor husband he was so loving! He was doing better on the throwing up end, but was constipated. :( We got back in the car... called a few hotels in Duluth. EVERYONE WAS BOOKED. REALLY? Not again. Kept calling, kept calling...

Finally. One JUST had a cancelation. Praise the Lord. We booked it without hesitation. There was NO way we could drive home in this condition.

Annd.... about 5 minutes after my throw-up incident... DOWN POUR RAIN. REALLY? Pouring, pouring sooooo much it was hard to drive and even see.

Somehow by the grace of God we made it through the detour, pouring rain, and sickness into Duluth to the hotel. We had trouble finding the parking lot for the hotel, had to run in with the pouring rain... and checked in. They still had the room for us! Praise the lamb!

Jumped in the bed, put the covers over and we were out.

I had trouble sleeping through the night because we hadn't eaten anything and I was so thirsty. I brought some comfy clothes expecting to change and sleep in the car on the ride home but Josh only had his dress clothes. At 2 am, I needed water. We had to walk down to the lobby half asleep because we didn't have any in our room.

We slept the next day and got up to have breakfast to see if we could try and keep it down. YES! It was successful! We left duluth around 11 and headed home. We were STARVING. Only little meals would do, because we did not want to upset our stomachs any further.

WHAT A WEEKEND! As I post this, I can't believe all of this happened but it was exciting to look back and know that God was truly looking out for us! The room we stayed in had NO windows... which was perfect for us, because it kept it dark for us to be able to sleep. We had a cozy room and blankets and a place to just rest.

Never again will we not book a hotel room for a wedding 3+ hours away. Lesson learned.
