Getaway.

We are so blessed to be able to have a mini-getaway this weekend. We forget to take little “get-way's” when we are just TOO busy and caught-up. I am really challenged by this and am trying to remember the Sabbath. And. Keep it holy.

I had a woman in my life once point out that I did not Sabbath enough. What is a Sabbath? It can have many different “looks” to it. Painting your nails, taking a bath, just having some me- time. Do it. Try it. It really revitalizes my heart and passions when Josh and I take time to just focus on being together. Nothing holding us back. Or time just spent doing a favorite activity and not feeling bad about it.

I think of this picture often. Some of my closet friends created this for me – it is a “paper chain”. It was a COUNT-DOWN to the days before Josh and I would be ONE. Those were exciting times and I never thought we’d be married ;) hahaha. The engagement was great, and so worth it, but I am sure most of us married women can relate – there is NOTHING like being married!

Be blessed and remember it is okay to do things for yourself once in awhile!!!

(when you read this we will be on our way to Iowa… can’t wait to share pics later!!)

Hopefully after this weekend you'll be able to cross spending extra time with your husband and just relaxing and doing nothing off of your list! Have a great weekend away and just remember to relax:)

Sooo beautiful, Ria! I love the new look and truly appreciated that post!! What a blessing to know we can be "still" and not have to be sad about it. I think we are alot alike in that way. :) I love you, friend, and you need to teach me a thing or two on this thing!!

I hear you about Sabbath - it is the easiest and most fun spiritual discipline I've come across. Steve and I started keeping a Sabbath one day a week when we were first married, and now, more than 15 years later, we wouldn't trade it for anything. A day when God actually COMMANDS us to not work? Wow, what a gift! We see it as living on God's time, freed from our own agendas and everyone else's for a whole 24 hours. Ah, bliss!

By the way, we do a Sabbath any day that works - for us, Sunday is a work day, so our current Sabbath tradition is Fridays.

For some great reading on Sabbath, try Abraham Heschel's book "Sabbath" or Marva Dawn's Sabbath keeping book.

P.S. We also love keeping an annual Sabbath in our marriage - we go away to somewhere new every anniversary.
